The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 【B-】3＞1＞2＞主线＞4，第3个故事不管精彩程度刺激程度还是故事主题的完成度都是本片中最高的，非常希望单独拿出来拍成长片。1讲都市传说也很有趣，2和4完成度太低了，2的氛围做好了但故事有头无尾很莫名，4的政治讽刺做的不错但忽略了怎么把故事讲的有趣，是本片节奏最慢的故事，高潮部分的调度非常混乱，特别减分。主线故事虽然很短但效果拍出来了，相比起4来说还不错。
机械姬6.5 出奇的好 其他纯属亏钱，2好故事很无聊，不过成本也不高，还算能接受。
布鲁克纳你在搞毛？？？拍点影碟店直送素质的东西糊弄谁？？？
依然保持那种录像带画质增加纪实真实感，一个总故事串联四个小故事，还是最喜欢第三个那个实验机器姬视角的，恐怖血腥暴力是主打。
7分。这部也很棒，伪记录适合这种小故事，地下道鼠人怪诞味道、殡仪馆诈尸、改造人嘎嘎乱杀很牛逼、囚禁吸血鬼的革命者这个比较无聊。
比前几部多了一份粗粝与最原始的血腥本色，但故事也相对变得更加支离破碎。
作为致命录像带爱好者我竟然今天才知道出了第四部 这还是我昨天看完夜间小屋顺着导演摸过来的 我才发现这味道演的作品我几乎都看过 这部在vhs系列里面太平庸了 有点失望
第四个当个笑话看看吧，还挺好玩的
cult短篇集。如果不是不久前看了《灵媒》可能因为伪纪录片的形式还会再加半星。
血腥 肢解 朋克 重口 吸血鬼。喔嚯，这脑洞怕是已经看不见地球了。
第三个故事虽然有点不切题但是最好看，整体优缺点都挺明显的

伪纪录片。不同的小故事。 每一个故事都有一个人在录像。 恶趣味重口脑洞小故事。
我说实话。。。我更喜欢1～3部那种风格。。。这种小故事没得那味儿
下水道鼠人怪、殡仪馆复活的被肢解的尸体、实验室机器合成人，还有最后一个雪地里的故事不懂什么意思。挺CULT, 够暴力, 机器合成人那里恶心了一下。永远不要给机器人活着的机会！！
印尼那段够血腥呵呵，所以想当年这些渣渣排了华！
还可以，略逊前面几部。
邪典伪纪录片回归了，观感实打实的比第三部要好。年代感满满，无惊无喜，不过依旧有新意，血浆爆点在第三个故事，整体倒也不难看。
这系列真的迷，一好一坏交替出现。这一部的整体质感可以说是这个系列里面相当上乘的一作，真正做到了第一部试图营造的那种就录像系统和影像故障的效果，而不是单纯的胡乱堆砌那种毫无关联的阻碍。而每一个故事也拍得非常精致，对于录像设备的机位不像上一部那么胡来，而且也针对这些机位的存在制定了非常不错的合理性。所有短片似乎都在呈现同一个效果，就是面部破坏，从最开始小队缉查毒窝的时候就不断地给挖眼特写，而每一个短片中的核心惊吓点也都是脸部破坏，不知道这是达成的共识还是有一定的表意。不过十分可惜的是既然作为一个有点前传性质的作品，没能在这个系列的设定上做更进一步的补充，确实有失期待
回归到VHS的正常制作水准，比较来看还是第一个故事最有意思。
