打光方式突出了Bill的受困之感，昏暗牌室成为禁闭囚房的变体，人物只能偶尔逃离片刻。导演Paul Schrader把俗气的灯光公园拍得很梦幻，也是片中Bill最放松的时刻，另外Bill梦境回忆中的集中营也是既梦幻又邪恶。Cirk在某种意义上是Bill的分身，是他充满光明与希望的一面。随着Cirk的死去，Bill也就明白了他再也不可能过上新生活了。
