The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 没啥动作场面，科幻也只是背景，一个有点温暖的故事
印度真的敢拍啊，这一部电影讨论的东西真的太多了，从女性到种族，从导师霸凌到强权操控，从学生游行寻求真相到媒体舆论操控真相。任何一个主题都够拍一部电影了，而本片尽管有这么多的元素却又合情合理。当然最后的结局有些理想化，还是个人英雄主义挑战强权。
前一小半会让人觉得是不是配不上这个片子的分数，就很流水账，中段以为是逼王出马的寻常桥段，拍着拍着就逐渐从理想主义抡铁锹的爽剧套路，慢慢走向精巧，这时才会发现导演编了一个大扣，增加的开放式结尾反而让这部片子上了一个台阶。有被导演秀到。对很多方面的讨论对于中国观众是比较能刺激到的。中国拍不出来是肯定的。

大 烂 片 不 用 多 说 听 配 乐 ... 非要说也是一言难尽
我还记得在马上要到达洛杉矶的时候，芬奇快不行了，他们在车下晒着久违的不会被紫外线灼伤的太阳，杰夫说自己做了一个梦。芬奇惊呆，他一个机器人竟然做梦了，，这个时候芬奇才意识到杰夫不单单是机器人，他是一个人了。
立意超高的电影，案中案，反转又反转，寻求正义的群众看完会高潮的那种爽片——只不过最后揭秘副警督和律师的背景那部分可以不要，对于一部宣传社会正义的价值观，应当是法理和道德律双重约束下的群体性正义，是如同片名（也是印度国歌）的《Jana Gana Mana（人民的意志）》，而不应当是因果报应这种玄学命理，那就格局小了；尤其是还要暗搓搓铺垫续集的引子，唉，那格局简直是开始歪了……
7分。给印度电影打分有时候真的挺矛盾的。一方面主题很宏大，或者无比正确，伟光正，就像不少人说的，能拍出来就是胜利。但另一方面如果刨去主题，电影的拍摄水准是在不太能看，不太能感染人。本剧涉及到了女性歧视，政府黑幕等等内容，上下两集两个男主，以及反转还是蛮突兀的，特别是下半段的律师部分，我就奇怪反派们做事就不做全套的么？？好吧，还是能拍出来就是好吧。。。
格局有了，魅力不够。坑挖的好但填的时候感觉力不从心。

先来说优点，后半程非常精彩，设置了两重反转，让人眼前一亮。其次讨论的议题非常现实主义，女性权益、制度弊端、政治操纵、舆论引导、程序正义、刻板印象等等，最精彩的部分就是最后的庭审。缺点也很明显，容易被时长吓退162分钟，印度电影的通病，部分情节完全可以略去不表。
确实很敢拍，抽丝剥茧，融合了各种深层议题与思考，有很多振聋发聩的金句，美中不足就是宝莱坞配乐依然太满，片子也拖的有点长。
一边跪，一边哭。
