The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 好老套的青春疼痛文学，自己给自己扎耳洞那一段也太暴力了吧，太吓人了。两个人的感情好幼稚，好初中生，剧本不太行。在操场接吻那一段没想到让我时隔十多年又在荧幕上看到依萍式接吻，救大命，还有这个贯穿始终的滤镜也打咩打咩

难看就算了，最可怕的其实是无聊，怎么可以这么无聊，甚至都没有什么值得说道的片段。
完全靠对司机的迷恋看完了电影。Gaga所有的电影都不吝露肉，可惜身材并不怎样。
AMC Shirlington 7｜3.5，最重要的放前面，看完了才知道有Jared Leto，完全认不出来（。还挺好看的，叙事节奏有点像All the money in the world，是会有人觉得乏味无趣。Gaga很适合这个角色，把虚荣野心悍妇的角色塑造得很好，司机算是正常发挥，建议眼镜半永久。

配乐总让我出戏觉得是个喜剧片，意大利家族说英语其实就算了还非得整带口音的英语也是自欺欺人
果然同性青春一定要有泳池戏，耳环设定还不错，可惜没一直沿用到最后。整体剧情偏散偏狗血，最后30岁的约定和走婚礼感觉太过时了，感觉现在异性恋也不这样拍，总体感觉少了点串起来的线。

Lady Gaga的表演方法和奇怪的意大利口音决定了这个故事的视角：它是错乱的、失序的、淡漠的，它让故事失去一个必要的结构、一个客观的历史叙事和一个可靠的情感寄托。这部流水账般的电影没能给这个时代的观众一个新的角度去关注这个家族。它没有任何的情感，更像是一个报道的影像化，带着一种后世阅读历史的理所应当的语气描述去记录它的进展，但所有的探索都没能在影像上找到答案。

Ridley scott在梦游拍片？剪辑一塌糊涂，几个主演显得也有点茫然，整个节奏也不太好，除了化妆，其他都太平平了
