The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 2022年还有西部片 赞 不过距离经典的西部片差了点 比利小子真是西部片的图腾啊…

枪战部分还算干脆利落
西部时代，或许美国建国靠的就是这股子狂野西部拓荒精神，一个个老亨利最终倒下换来了小亨利的崛起，但比利小子传奇永存。
感受就是，黑吃黑真可怕
好像短片一样，老套的剧情正着说就是朴实，前半小时就在想他儿子什么时候死，看到最后我确信就他儿子这两下子和脾气活不过一个月
是我不熟悉的领域所以会格外觉得痛快。前面剧情让人犯困，后面枪战觉得过瘾。儿子的戏份向我展示了一个镖客的选择，觉得很启悟。
波和麦金尼在门廊，加勒特闯进屋子，开了两枪...
老派西部片，简单的故事但很工整，枪战也很真实

幻想孩子是亚瑟。
难得现在还能看到一部如此舒缓古典的西部片。虽然剧情和场景都简单了些，和《新豪勇七蛟龙》这样的当代西部动作大片相去甚远，但骨子里的悲怆气息与东木老爷子的《不可饶恕》如出一辙
就像是一场没有战术的比赛，以最简单直接的方式结束。
西部片的魅力依旧，没有政治正确的黑人，没有情情爱爱的女人，西部牛仔们左轮手枪和步枪的响声真是悦耳。如今电影院的电垃圾电影太多，能在网上看到这部片实在难得！
西部片里的精悍作品，西部风光、牛仔、骏马还有枪战，该有的都有了，算不上经典，但也值得一看
